HISTORY OF AGBOR

Agbor has a rich history which is linked to the Ancient Benin Empire. It is widely believed that Agbor was founded by one of the sons of Oba Ewedo of the great Benin Empire. Prince Ogugunagbon, one of the twin sons of Oba Ewedo left Benin Empire to form what is today known as Agbor. This is why the people of Agbor share similar culture and names with people from Benin.

Agbor is regarded as the largest city among the Ika Nations. It is located in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, in South-south geo-political zone of Nigeria, West Africa. The city is known for it rich history, especially in the area of folklore and oral tradition. Agbor is the headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area, in Delta State, Nigeria.The indigenes of Agbor speak the Ika Language.

Agbor became a university town in 2021 as the old college of Education got a handsome upgrade into a degree-awarding school.
